Box Score The Wabash offense --- which produced 14 runs and 21 hits in a pair of Saturday baseball games at Hendrix --- was held to two hits and one run in Sunday's 8-1 loss to the Warriors.
Lucas Stippler owned the only hit for the Little Giants until the ninth inning. Stippler lined a two-out single to right in the fifth inning to break up a no-hitter by Hendrix pitcher Thomas Weber.
Wabash ended the shutout in the ninth inning.
Andrew Rodgers singled off relief pitcher Nick Land to open the inning. Rodgers moved to second after a walk to
Clint Scarborough then raced home on a fielder's choice off the bat of
Tyler Owensby.
Hendrix (3-5) scored a pair of runs in the bottom of the first inning off Wabash starter
Josh Piercey. The Little Giant sophomore worked three innings, allowing four total runs (three earned) off six hits, two walks while striking out three batters. Nelson Novak scattered six hits over three innings, surrendering one run while walking one and striking out two.
Jake Haste and
Alan Corey each pitched one inning of relief. Corey held Hendrix scoreless on one hit. Haste gave up three runs on three hits and one walk. He struck out one batter. The Warriors pounded out eight runs on 16 hits over eight innings.
Wabash (1-2) will travel to Louisville, Kentucky next Saturday for games against Penn State-Behrend (11 a.m.) and Spalding University (2 p.m.)
