Box Score 2 Wabash swept a pair of games in Louisville, Kentucky Saturday. The Little Giants defeated Penn State-Behrend 9-1 in game one before posting a 2-0 shutout victroy against host Spalding University.
Tyler Hampton slammed three doubles in game one to help Wabash to its second victory of the season. He tied for the second-highest total of doubles in a single game with his efforts against Penn State-Behrend. Hampton recorded three of the Little Giants' 12 hits.
Andrew Rodgers matched that total with three hits before leaving the game with a knee injury.
Tyler Owensby and
KJ Zelenika each picked up two hits, while
Tanner Watson and
Clint Scarborough each tallied one base knock.
JT Miller cruised to his first win of the season. The senior maintained a no-hitter through 4-2/3 innings. Milled struck out seven and finished with three hits in seven innings before giving way to
Ross Hendrickson, who surrendered a run on three hits in two innings of work.
Wabash plated a pair of runs in the second inning on a two-run double by Zelenika. Owensby drove home a run with his single in the third, followed by an RBI double by Hampton to eventually staked the Little Giants to a 6-0 lead.
The Little Giants made the most of eight hits against Spalding in the second contest.
Luke Holm,
Josh Piercey, and
Christian Vukas combined for the first shutout of the season for the Little Giants. Holm pitched six innings in his first outing of the season to snare the win. He scattered five hits and struck out eight. Piercey threw two innings of relief, holding Spalding to a hit and walk to go with a pair of strikeouts. Vukas faced two batters, forcing a double-play on his first pitch in relief of Piercey in the ninth innning before coaxing a game-ending line drive to earn his second save of the season.
Zelenika and Scarborough each had two hits and an RBI for the Little Giants.
Wabash (3-2) will face Hanover next weekend in a three-game series, beginning with a Saturday doubleheader.
