Box Score A five-run second inning lifted Wabash to a 6-3 victory Saturday at Allegheny in the opening game of North Coast Athletic Conference Crossover Series. Game two was suspended in the fourth inning due to weather with Allegheny up 2-0.
David Oliger carried the big bat for the Little Giants in the victory, driving home three runs on three hits.
Clint Scarborough picked up a pair of RBI, while
Lucas Stippler drove home one run.
After
KJ Zelenika and
Tanner Watson produced back-to-back one out singles, Stippler singled home the first run of the game with a a shot to right field. A walk to
Trey Fankhauser loaded the bases for Oliger, who smashed a single to right center to score Watson and Stippler. A stolen base by Oliger put two runners in scoring position for Scarborough. He responded with a single to left to plate both runs.
That was all the run support starter
JT Miller needed to earn his fifth win of the season. The lefty ace scattered five hits while giving up two earned runs and two walks. Miller struck out eight batters while throwing a total of 93 strikes in 136 pitches.
Miller's pitch total was low compared to Allegheny starter Kyle Davis, who fell to 6-4 on the season with the loss. Davis tossed 175 pitches with 116 strikes in 8-2/3 innings. He allowed 10 hits and all six earned runs with five walks and seven strikeouts.
The Gators picked up a run in the third, but Wabash answered with another RBI single by Oliger to score Stippler. Allegheny picked up two runs in the fourth before being blanked the rest of the game.
Saturday was scheduled for two nine-inning games between the two teams, but game two was suspended midway through the fourth inning due to lightning and rain with Allegheny holding a 2-0 lead. Action is schedule to resume Sunday at 11 a.m. The winner of the three-game series advances to the NCAC Baseball Tournament which will be held next week in Chillicothe, Ohio.
