Jennings' Shutout Leads to 1-0 Win For Wabash Soccer

Wabash goalkeeper Dayton Jennings recorded his sixth shutout of the season, including a save on a penalty kick in a 1-0 win by the Little Giant soccer team over Oberlin.

Jennings has earned 16 shutouts in his career, placing him second behind all-time Wabash leader Tony Beuke with 16-1/2 shutouts from 1990-1993.

Adam Antalis provided the lone scoring shot, collecting a rebound on an initial shot by Nikola Kajmakoski that hit the post.

Wabash focused on defense against the Yeomen (7-4-1, 1-2 NCAC) in the first half, holding Oberlin scoreless on nine total shots with four saves by Jennings, including one on a penalty kick in the first period. The Little Giants managed two shots on goal in the opening period.

"We executed the game plan and defended well," Wabash head coach Chris Keller said. "We were very organized. Our defense was awesome. Dayton Jennings was huge, saving a penalty kick. We created opportunities. This really could have been a 3-3 game. Both keepers came up big. Both made saves on penalty kicks --- one on each side."

Wabash had a chance to break the tie on its own penalty shot in the 55th minute, but Mike Gore's shot was turned aside by Oberlin goalkeeper Koryn Kraemer. Antalis provided the game-winner in the 88th minute on his rebound putback.

"We moved Adam up for this game to see if he could give us some magic," Keller said. "A good shot by Kajmakoski hit the post and Adam was there to knock it home. This was a great game against a very good Oberlin team. I think it's one of the best teams we've seen all year."

Wabash (9-2-1, 1-1-1 NCAC) finished with 15 total shots and six shots on goal. Jennings recorded nine total saves and faced 23 total shot attempts. The victory snapped a two-game losing streak and third straight match without a win while also providing the first North Coast Athletic Conference victory of the season for the Little Giants.

"It was really important to get the three points with a win today on the road against a team that's going to beat a lot of other teams. We got a game back after losing one at home last weekend. However there are no easy games in our conference. We know we have to be prepared for an undefeated Denison squad Wednesday."

Wabash faces Denison Wednesday at 4 p.m. at Mud Hollow Stadium.
