Â
Wabash coach Cory Stevens rested starting right fielder
Tyler Owensby in Tuesday's finale for the weekend series at Denison. Spaulding took advantage of the opportunity to crack the lineup, recording three doubles and three RBI as part of his four-hit effort.
Â
The Little Giants trailed 1-0 before exploding for five runs in the second inning. Back-to-back walks set up an RBI single by
Tyler Hampton to tie the game. Wabash took its second lead of the four-game series when
Cole Harlacher smacked a perfect bunt in between the pitcher's mound and second base for an RBI base hit. After a wild pitch plated another run, Spaulding hit a ball up the middle that glanced off the second baseman's glove on a diving effort. Spaulding hustled to second for his first double, giving the Little Giants a 4-1 lead. He came home three batters later on an RBI single by
Tanner Watson to cap the five-run frame.
Â
DePauw (14-17, 11-5 NCAC West) answered with three runs in the top of the third, then tied the game at 5-5 in fourth with another run. Spaulding started the next Wabash rally in the bottom of the fourth with his second double, scoring on an RBI single by
Lucas Stippler to give the Little Giants the lead for good.
Â
Spaulding drove home the final two runs of the game with an RBI single to center, scoring
Clint Scarborough and
Andrew Rodgers after the pair opened the fifth inning with walks then stole third and second, respectively.
Â
Austin Hawn took advantage of the offensive output to record his third win of the season. The senior lefty pitched five innings, scattering 10 hits while allowing five earned runs with four walks. He struck out two batters.
Bryan Roberts pitched three innings of relief, holding the Tigers to two runs on four hits with two walks and two strike outs.
Josh Piercey picked up his first career save, holding the Tigers scoreless in the ninth inning.
Â
DePauw jumped out to an early 5-0 lead, eventually holding a 12-2 edge before Wabash scored three runs in the sixth inning of game one. Rodgers collected three hits in that game, including his second home run of the season in the Little Giants' 5-run seventh. Harlacher, Watson, Scarborough, and
David Oliger each finished with two hits. Scarborough drove home four of the Little Giants' 10 runs in Tuesday' opener.
