Sunday Series Ends In Doubleheader Loss at DePauw

Wabash lost the final two games of its four-game road baseball series at DePauw Sunday afternoon by scores of 10-3 and 9-5.

The four-game North Coast Athletic Conference West Division series sweep by the Tigers (18-15, 8-8 NCAC West) dropped the Little Giants into fourth place in the standings.

Wabash took an early lead in game one with an RBI single by Taylor Canter in the third inning. DePauw tied the game with a run in the bottom half of the inning. The Tigers broke the game open with a seven-run fourth inning prior to scoring two more runs in the fifth.

The Little Giants opened the final inning of game one with a double by Cole Harlacher. Sean Roginski followed with an RBI double then raced to third on an error by the DePauw shortstop. Jared Wolfe's single to right scored Roginski for a second run. Wabash put two runners aboard with two outs, but a ground ball to short ended any further rally.

Bryan Roberts took the loss (4-4), throwing 3-2/3 inning while giving up 10 hits and eight runs, in addition to three walks and three strikeouts. Sawyer Donovan pitched 2/3 of an inning, allowing one earned run on one hit and three walks. Luke Dant pitched the final 1-2/3 innings, holding DePauw hitless while recording one out.

Wabash picked up seven hits in the game, two coming from Wolfe and Harlacher.

The Little Giants fell behind early in game two after DePauw picked up three runs in second. Wabash took advantage of three Tiger errors and a passed ball, capped by an RBI single by Canter, to cut the lead to 3-2. DePauw responded with a four-run third and solo runs in the fourth and fifth innings.

Back-to-back singles by David Oliger and KJ Zelenika sparked a two-run sixth inning for Wabash. Zach Leander produced the first run with a sacrifice fly to bring home the first run of the inning, one of two RBI in the game for the sophomore. Harlacher added an RBI single with two outs to trim the Tigers' advantage to 9-4.

Leander's second sacrifice fly came in the eighth inning after Oliger and Zelenika once again opened the frame with singles. Wabash was unable to threaten in the ninth inning, losing by the four-run deficit.

Canter and Oliger each finished with three hits in game two. Zelenika had a pair of hits, while Leanders picked up two RBI. Cameron Glaze (1-1) took the loss, working three innings while surrendering eight hits and five earned runs with three strikeouts. Cody Cochran held DePauw to three hits and two runs in two innings of relief with two walks. Connor Smith limited the Tigers to a pair of hits and one walk over three innings.

Wabash (16-16, 6-6 NCAC West) travels to Crestwood, Illinois Tuesday evening to play North Central College at Standard Bank Stadium in the team's final non-conference game of the season before playing host to division leader Denison University for a four-game series next Saturday and Sunday.
