Wabash doubled the shot totals of its opponent, Hanover College, in Sunday afternoon's soccer match but could not score a goal in the 1-0 loss to the Panthers.
Â
The Little Giants fired eight total shots compared to four for Hanover (1-1-0), with five shots going on goal. Hanover scored its lone goal on a restart on the left side of the box after a Wabash foul. Will Bridgeman launched a kick in front of the goal that Matthew Eldridge collected and shot into the back of the net for the game-winning goal.
Â
Nikola Kajmakoski sent an early shot attempt toward the goal but hit the nearside post. Wabash had another opportunity to even the score in the second period when a
Mike Gore attempt slipped past the goal keeper for the Panthers but was stopped by the Hanover defense before the ball could cross the goal line. Gore led the Wabash offense with a pair of shots on goal.
Â
"Today's game was an improvement on our effort Thursday against Franklin," Wabash head coach
Chris Keller said. "We created more chances, although we were a bit unlucky with hitting post and having a near miss in the first five minutes. If we put those shots away it's a totally different game. Hanover played a good style of soccer that was hard to defend after getting off to a slow start. We definitely showed improvements all over the field today."

Wabash (0-1-1) returns to action Wednesday afternoon at Earlham College before returning home for the Robbie Dreher Classic and a celebration of 50 years of soccer at Wabash.
