A goal in the closing seconds of the first half provided the only score in the Wabash soccer team's 1-0 loss to Earlham College in Richmond, Indiana Wednesday night.
Â
The Little Giants fired four shots on goal compared to two for Earlham (2-1-0). However, the Quakers' Micah Roland collected a cross from Aidan Klemmer in the final 21 seconds of the first half to score the game-winning goal.
Â
Wabash produced a pair of shots on goal over the final 45 minutes, but the attempts were turned away by Earlham goal keeper Nicola Manni.
Riley Pelton finished the match with two shots on goal.
Jacques Boulais and
Michael Tanchevski each tallied one shot on goal.
Â
"We had just an average start to the game," Wabash head coach
Chris Keller said. "We just didn't seem energetic enough. We did get some good energy off the bench from some of the younger guys. I thought that helped us play much better in the second half.
Â
"Once again the final product just wasn't there, but it will come. The guys are working hard, and that showed in the second half with a high work rate and good teamwork."
Â
Wabash (0-2-1) returns home to compete in the Robbie Dreher Soccer Classic to be held Saturday and Sunday afternoon. The Classic will be part of the 50
th anniversary of soccer at Wabash, which include a special ceremony prior to the start of the Little Giants' match versus Monmouth College at 4 p.m. at Mud Hollow Field. Hanover College will play Carthage at 1 p.m. to begin play Saturday.
