Little Giants Win Sixth Straight With 2-0 Decision over Allegheny

Wabash won its sixth consecutive match and improved to 2-0 in North Coast Athletic Conference contests with a 2-0 home win Sunday afternoon against Allegheny College.

The Little Giants took a 1-0 in the first period of a physical contest that saw 33 fouls called and four yellow cards issued. Stojan Krsteski followed his own shot with a follow-up attempt off a save by Allegheny's goalkeeper to pick up his fourth goal of the season.

"Today was a physical battle, which happens in every game in the North Coast Athletic Conference," Wabash head coach Chris Keller said. "Allegheny is athletic with a good midfield presence. They have a solid squad. They're dangerous on set pieces and long throws. I'm proud of how we came out and got the result today."

The Little Giants produced 18 total shots, including six on goals while limiting the Gators (3-7, 0-2 NCAC) to seven shot attempts and two shots on goal. Wabash put a pair of shots up in the final ten minutes on quick transition plays, but were unable to score until Francisco Trejo fired a pass to Jacques Boulais, who then sent the ball to Justin Kopp on the right side. Kopp beat the Allegheny defense for a one-on-one chance against the Gators' keeper and drilled the shot into the back of the net for his first collegiate goal.

"Allegheny limits a lot of the quick possession," Keller said. "I did think we could have taken a 2-0 lead right before half. I told the guys before the game to get the ball in the net. It doesn't matter who or how, we've just got to do it. It was one of those dog-fight style NCAC games."

Demitri Lee made two saves to record his first career shutout and improve to 4-1 as the Little Giants' goalkeeper.

"We talked a lot this week about limiting clear chances and being first or second to the ball," Keller said. "I think the whole team defended well. We got the shutout. I'm proud of our guys."

The Little Giants (8-2, 2-0 NCAC) move into a tie with Kenyon and Ohio Wesleyan, also 2-0 in conference play this season. Wabash will travel to Kenyon on Saturday, October 7 for a 3:30 start.
