Wabash Unable To Overcome Scoring Burst From Saint Vincent

A pair of goals in the final period helped Wabash close the scoring gap against Saint Vincent Saturday, but the Little Giants were unable to get closer than four goals in a 10-6 loss to the Bearcats in a neutral-site game in Columbus, Ohio.

After a scoreless first period the Little Giants started the scoring with a goal from Tucker Dixon, one of two in the contest for the sophomore. The Bearcats (1-5) responded with three straight scores, including a pair from Frank Casile who finished with four goals in the contest. The trifecta gave Saint Vincent the 3-2 halftime edge.
The Bearcats fired home the first three goals to open the second half to move in front 6-2. Andrew Weiland ended the streak with the first of his three goals on four shots. Saint Vincent added a fourth goal in the period to hold a 7-3 edge entering the final 15 minutes of play.

The Little Giants (3-5) were limited to 17 shots until the final period when they fired 14 scoring attempts. Wabash was outshot 39-to-31 overall and finished 0-of-5 in extra-man opportunities.

Wabash goalkeeper Max Atkins finished with nine saves, while his counterparts Connor McMillen and Kevin Tregoning combined for 12 stops. Saint Vincent controlled the faceoff dot, winning 13 of the 20 starts. Dajon Thomas and John Rodgers each gathered five ground balls to lead Wabash in that category.

The Little Giants continue non-conference play Wednesday when the travel to Wilmington College for a 7 p.m. contest.
