Wabash split two afternoon baseball games to begin its 2017 Spring Break trip in Tucson, Arizona. The Little Giants dropped the first game 9-6 against Aurora University rallying for an 11-6 victory against Bethany Lutheran.
Senior
Jensen Kirch took the mound for the Little Giants in game one, pitching eight strong innings, giving up eight runs (seven earned) on nine hits and six strikeouts. Freshman
Chandler Jacks threw one inning of relief, surrendering one run on one hit. Wabash struggled defensively in the first game, committing four errors.
Juniors
Sean Roginski and
Cole Harlacher paced Wabash offensively. Roginski showed power with two doubles and a single in five at-bats to produce two RBI. Harlacher gave the bottom of the batting order a lift, tallying one hit in two at-bats, including one double, and two walks.
Inability to hit with runners in scoring position plagued the Little Giants early in the game. By the sixth inning, the Wabash lineup began to catch fire and string hits together, but were unable overcome the early deficit.
The second game of the afternoon double-header showed Wabash's resiliency. Senior
Michael Herrmann had a great outing, giving up only two runs (zero earned) and scattered eight hits. Herrmann also struck out four batters. Sophomore
Luke Dant gave up one run on three hits in one inning of relief work. Senior
Cameron Glaze came on to pitch the remainder of the game, and gave up a run (zero earned) and struck out one batter. Errors continued to be a problem for the Little Giants, as they tallied six in the second game.
Wabash totaled 11 hits in the second game, capitalizing on the momentum the team gained at the end of the first game. Junior
Taylor Canter went 2-3 at the plate with two RBI and two walks.
The Little Giants are back in action Monday morning as they take on Bethany Lutheran again. First pitch is at 9 a.m. MST.
