Wabash College extended their winning streak to three games Tuesday afternoon when they defeated Simpson College 14-5.
Â
The game was an "all hands on deck" pitching effort for the Little Giants, as four pitchers were used over the span of nine innings. The Wabash offense backed up the pitching staff throughout the game plenty of run support.
Â
Freshman
Eric Murphy made his first collegiate start, although it was short lived. Simpson scored three runs on the Little Giants in the first two-thirds of an inning. Sophomore
Luke Dant replaced Murphy with two outs in the first and needed only a few pitches to retire the Simpson side. Dant went on to pitch 2.2 innings, gave up two runs on three hits (none earned), and walked two batters. Sophomore
Ryan Thomas carried the extended load of the pitching duties for the afternoon. Thomas pitched 4.2 innings, gave up one hit and struck out two batters to earn the win.
Â
The Wabash defense offense responded well to the initial shock of the Simpson storm in the first inning. After Simpson chalked up three runs in the first, the Little Giants scored 11 runs in the first three innings combined. Wabash continued to keep its foot on the gas pedal, as it consistently put pressure on the Simpson defense through strategic bunting and stolen bases. Senior
Andrew Roginski, and juniors
Taylor Canter,
Tyler Downing,
Sean Roginski and
Bryce Aldridge all tallied two hits for the Little Giants on the day.
Andrew Roginski and
Eric Chavez led Wabash with three RBI apiece.
Â
Wabash will enjoy an off-day Wednesday, then returns to action on Thursday against North Central University (MN). The first pitch will be at 6:30 p.m. MST
