Wabash took an early 2-0 lead before scoring five runs in the fourth inning in an eventual 11-5 victory over Earlham College Wednesday evening at Goodrich Ballpark.
The Little Giants took the two-run lead in the first inning on an RBI ground-rule double off the bat of
Andrew Roginski followed by an RBI single by
Bryce Aldridge to drive Roginski home.
Both teams would have to wait on a one-hour, 32-minute lightning delay the cleared the stadium before resuming action. The break did nothing to cool off the Wabash bats. The Little Giants exploded for five runs in the fourth.
Erich Lange was hit by a pitch and moved to second on a sacrifice bunt by
Tyler Downing.
Henry Wannemuehler drew a walk to put to runners aboard with one out.
Nick Chao hit a ground ball that the Quakers (15-11) were unable to handle, putting Chao on to load the bases.
Jared Wolfe emptied them just as quickly with a three-run triple one batter later to put Wabash up 5-1, answering a run scored by Earlham in the third inning. Wolfe scored on a hard shot to first by
Eric Chavez for the second out. The Little Giants added one more run in the inning on another RBI single by Aldridge.
The Quakers scored three runs in the sixth inning, but Wabash responded with a pair of runs in the bottom half of the frame thanks to a two-run single by Lange to put the Little Giants up 9-4. Earlham scored its final run in the seventh. Wabash posted the final two runs in the bottom of the seventh when Wolfe reached on a throwing error on a sacrifice bunt, allowing Wannemuehler to race home from second. Wolfe came around to score on an RBI single by Chavez.
The Little Giants finished the game with 13 hit overall, led by Chavez who finished 3-of-5 from the plate with two RBI. Aldridge and Lange each collected two hits and two RBI. Wannemuehler add two hits to the Wabash totals. Wolfe paced the offense with his three RBIs on the bases loaded triple.
Luke Dant earned his second victory on the mound for the Little Giants. He threw four innings, allowing three hits and one unearned run with one walk and two strikeouts.

Kevin O'Donnell, and Lange each worked an inning in relief before
Michael Herrmann finished the game in the ninth.
Wabash (17-13) plays Berea College in a three-game series at Goodrich Ballpark this weekend, beginning with a Saturday doubleheader scheduled to begin at 1 p.m.
