The Wabash baseball team opened its three-game weekend series against Berea College Saturday with a sweep of the doubleheader. The Little Giants won 4-2 in game one before posting a 6-0 shutout in game number two.
Wabash took 1-0 lead in the first inning of game one thanks to an RBI single by
Sean Roginski, bringing
Jared Wolfe home. Berea (13-22) tied the game in the fourth with a single by Andrew Akins.
Wolfe added another run in the sixth inning, scoring on a single by
Andrew Roginski to give the Little Giants a 2-1 lead. Wolfe made it 3-1 when he scored his third run of the game off an RBI single by
Eric Chavez in the eighth inning. Chavez tallied the final run for Wabash off a single into center field by
Bryce Aldridge. The Mountaineers closed to within two runs by scoring in the top of the ninth.
Jensen Kirch pitched five innings as the Little Giants' starter, limiting Berea to one run on four hits with two walks. He struck out two batters.
Luke Dant picked up the win in relief. He allowed one unearned run on one hit and one walk in four innings of relief work. Dant struck out two.
Wolfe had three hits to lead to his three runs scored. Chavez and
Andrew Roginski turned in two hits apiece as part of ten total hits for the Wabash offense.
Aldridge drove in a pair of runs in the 6-0 win in game two. Starter
Bryan Roberts allowed only one hit through five innings to earn his third win of the season. He gave up one walk and one hit batsman with four strikeouts.
Cody Cochran picked up his fifth save in four solid innings of relief work. He struck out five batters while holding Berea to one hit.
Aldridge drove home the first run of the game in the first inning with a single to third to score
Sean Roginski from third. Wolfe plated a run when he raced home on a throwing error by the Mountaineers trying to retire him at third on a hit to shortstop. The errant toss allowed Wolfe to score to make it 2-0 in favor of the Little Giants.
Sean Roginski added a third run on a sacrifice fly by Aldridge in the third inning to make it a 3-0 contest. Chavez produced an RBI single in the fourth inning, plating
Henry Wannemuehler.

Erich Lange added the final run of the game when he came home on a mishandled sacrifice bunt by
Tyler Downing in the fifth inning.
Chavez,
Sean Roginski, and Wolfe each collected two hits for Wabash in game two. The Little Giants finished with 12 hits and two walks through eight innings.
Wabash (19-13) will try to earn its first 20-win season since 2011 when it finishes the series Sunday with a noon first pitch in the finale at Goodrich Ballpark.
