Krsteski Lifts Wabash Soccer to 3-2 OT Win At Franklin

Stojan Krsteski sent an overtime blast into the net to give Wabash 3-2 win at Franklin in the 2017 season opening soccer match.

Krsteski lifted the game-winning shot in the ninth minute of the extra session to tally his second goal of the match. He opened the scoring for Wabash in the 14th minute to even the score at 1-1 after Franklin (0-1) notched the opening goal of the contest off a shot attempt by Mason May.

Matt Powell provided a 2-1 lead for the host Grizzlies in the 16th minute. Neither team found a positive offensive result for the remainder of the game until Cory Sims launched a header past Franklin's keeper with 2:50 remaining in regulation.

Chad Wunderlich earned his first collegiate victory in goal for the Little Giants. He did not face a shot on goal after entering the game to begin the second half. The Little Giants limited Franklin without a shot after the first half while firing 15 shots in the same span of time. Krsteski, Francisco Trejo, and Bayden Lee each finished with two shots on goal. Freshman Justin Kopp picked up an assist on Krsteski's final goal of the night.

"It was an eventful first game," Wabash head coach Chris Keller said. "We had a little bit of a gut-check moment in the third minute when Spase Dorsuleski went down with an injury and was out of the lineup for the rest of the game. Give Franklin credit, we misplayed a pass and eventually gave up a goal on a corner kick, something we haven't done in about 30 games. Michael Tanchevski played nearly 90 minutes in the back in place of Spase. He gave a great effort in his first game back from an ACL injury."

Wabash (1-0) opens the home portion of the the season Wednesday at 5 p.m. versus Earlham College.
