Little Giants Blank Fontbonne

A pair of goals and an assist by Francisco Trejo and a blank sheet by the Wabash defense gave the Little Giants a 3-0 victory Saturday over Fontbonne University.

Trejo his what would prove to be the game-winning goal in the 14th minute to put Wabash in front 1-0. The Little Giant missed an opportunity for a second goal on a penalty kick in the 60th minute that sailed wide of the net. Mohamed Ndour extended the Little Giants' lead with his first goal of the season off a rebound of a shot attempt by Trejo for a 2-0 lead.

Trejo buried the final Wabash goal with a glancing shot off the left post in the 77th minute for his third goal of the season.

"Today was a great performance by the whole team," Wabash head coach Chris Keller said. "It was really hot, about 100 degrees on the turf so we went really deep into our bench. That was helpful. We took control of the game early and got the goal by Trejo on some great combination play by Bayden Lee. That let us get control of the game early before Fontbonne took control of the ball for a 10- to 20-minute period."

Freshman goalkeeper Chad Wunderlich, a St. Louis, Missouri product, earned the victory in goal for the Little Giants. He made three saves in 90 minutes and faced a total of five shots by Fontbonne (3-3-1).

Wabash placed nine shots on goal out of 14 total tries.

"We got a great effort from the entire defense. We got really good play from Pierce Van Houten, Spase Dorsuleski, Justin Kopp, Michael Tanchevski, Collin Luckey, Christian Stiverson, and goalkeeper Chad Wunderlich, who got his first shutout in front of his family and friends in his hometown."

The Little Giants (3-2) complete their western road trip Sunday with a 2 p.m. (CDT) contest at Monmouth College.
