Second-Half Scoring Sinks Wabash at Ohio Wesleyan

Wabash owned a four-point halftime lead Wednesday night at Ohio Wesleyan before a second half offensive barrage ended in an 88-76 victory for the host Battling Bishops.
 
The Little Giants (8-10, 4-7 North Coast Athletic Conference) led 34-30 at the break. Wabash limited OWU (13-5, 7-3 NCAC) to 12-of-38 shooting from the field and a 6-of-26 effort from three-point range. The Little Giants also controlled the rebounding edge, outboarding the Bishops 28-15 at the break.
 
Wabash trailed 2-0 at the start of the game, then answered by scoring the next nine points to move in front 9-2. The Little Giants moved in front by as many as ten points when Harrison Hallstrom scored with 7:14 remaining in the first half for a 28-18 lead. Ohio Wesleyan began to show signs of life on offense over the final seven minutes of the period, outscoring Wabash 12-6 for a 34-30 lead by the visiting Little Giants at the break.
 
The Battling Bishops came out of the locker room red hot in the second half, led by junior Chris Allocco. Scoreless in the first period, Allocco hit three out of four three point-attempts in the span of three minutes to erase the Wabash lead and give OWU a 47-45 lead. The Bishops continued their long-range efforts in the final period, extending the lead to 12 points at 62-50 on a three from Jake Hecker. Connor Rotterman drew Wabash to within eight points with a put-back reverse layup with 7:28 left to play. Ohio Wesleyan stretched the lead back to double digits, maintaining the advantage throughout the remainder of the contest.
 
After Wabash held the Battling Bishops to 46 percent shooting from the field and 20 percent from three-point range in the first half, OWU shot 18-of-31 (58.1 percent) over the final 20 minutes of game and connected on 10-of-16 three-point tries (62.5 percent).
 
Jack Davidson led Wabash with 21 points. Hallstrom finished with 16 points and 13 rebounds for his sixth double-double of the season. Rotterman added 15 points.
 
Nate Axelrod paced the Ohio Wesleyan with 25 points. Allocco scored 19 points, all in the second half. Jaret Gerber finished with 12 points, while Grant Gossard added 10.
 
Wabash begins a three-game homestand Saturday against Kenyon College. Tipoff is set for 3 p.m.
