Wabash and Denison played to a double-overtime 0-0 tie Wednesday evening in Granville, Ohio. Neither of the two teams, separated in the North Coast Athletic Conference men's soccer standings by one point
Â
The visiting Little Giants (10-3-2, 3-2-1 NCAC) began the match in fourth place in the NCAC standings with a total of nine points. Denison (5-6-2, 3-1-2 NCAC) started the night in third place with ten points.
Â
"I'm a little disappointed to leave Granville without the three point for win," Wabash head coach
Chris Keller said. "We created some opportunities to get one into the net. We missed a few close shots. We were hoping to execute a little better in the final third of the field.
Â
"Having said that, coming away with one point is ok, but we really feel like we left two more points on the table. We worked hard. We pressed and created shots. The shot selection or that final pass to set up the goal just wasn't on today. Our expectation is for that to improve heading into Saturday's home game against a very talented Oberlin team."
Â
Wabash fired four shots on goal in the game out of its 14 total shots.
Timothy Herring put two attempts on frame, but was unable to add to his team-leading total of seven goals for the season.
David Riggs and
Nathan Ooley each added one shot on goal apiece. Wabash goalkeeper
Chad Wunderlich made five saves while facing 15 total shot attempts by the Big Red.
Â
Saturday's noon start against Oberlin at Fischer Field will be preceded by Senior Day festivities to honor the five senior members of the 2018 Wabash soccer team.
