A Saturday soccer showdown between two regionally-ranked programs tied atop the North Coast Athletic Conference standings ended with Wabash losing at home to Kenyon College by a score of 4-0.
Wabash (9-2-1, 2-1-0 NCAC) entered the match ranked fifth in the latest United Soccer Coaches Great Lakes Regional poll with Kenyon (9-1-1, 3-0-0 NCAC) ahead one spot in fourth place. The two squads began the day tied with Ohio Wesleyan University for first place in the NCAC standings.
The game remained tied at 0-0 in the first half with Kenyon outshooting the host Little Giants 9-0.
Chad Wunderlich made four saves to keep Wabash in the game through the first 45 minutes. Kenyon rallied for its first goal in the 53rd minute off the foot of David Anderson for his team-best seventh goal of the season. Brice Koval added a second goal just over a minute later to stretch the lead to 2-0. Sam Carson picked up the third goal in 79th minute off an assist by
Sebastian Gaese. Carson returned the favor in the 83rd minute, assisting on Gaese's third goal of the season.
Wabash fired two shots on goal in the second period but could not break through for a goal. Timothy Herring and Collin Luckey produced the shot attempts for the Little Giants.
Wabash travels to Wittenberg University for a Tuesday contest beginning at 7 p.m.
