Eight Wabash wrestlers earned top-six individual finishes at Saturday's Concordia Open in Mequon, Wisconsin.
Darden Schurg captured the 174-pound weight class title, while
Kyle Hatch placed second at 165 pounds as the top placers for the Little Giants.

Schurg picked up four victories on the mat Saturday, starting the day with a technical fall (24-5) against Wisconsin-Eau Claire's Evan Lawrence. Schurg followed with a pin against Wisconsin-Whitewater's Ryan Vedner (1:48) and an 11-3 major win against Ben Sarasin from the University of Chicago to advance to the title bout. Schurg scored a 12-2 major decision in the championship round against Connor Price from Wisconsin-Parkside to claim the title.

Hatch scored a technical fall (16-1) in his opening match against Keegan Gilligan from Loras, then pinned PJ Ladd from Lakeland 1:53 into their quarterfinal bout. Hatch won a thriller over Kahlan Lee-Lermer from Chicago with a sudden victory in the semifinals to advance the championship bout of the 165-pound weight class against Loras' Eddie Smith. Smith came away with a 6-3 decision with Hatch earning second place overall.

Riley Lomenick,
Griffin Schermer,
Jared Timberman, and
Maxwell Bishop each picked up third-place finishes in their respective weight classes. Limerick recorded three falls in his six matches with wins over Drosianos Louvaris (5:16), Andrew Poniatowski (1:32), and Brenden Baker (2:44) in the semifinals of the 141-pound weight class. Limerick finished the day with a 5-1 record, including a 3-1 decision in the third-place bout versus Jake Polka from UW-Parkside.

Schermer scored two early round wins with a tech fall (15-0) against Andrew Harrell from Wheaton and a pin (2:08) against Nathan Hensley from UW-Parkside to start competition at 149 pounds. Schermer earned pins in his last two matches in the consolation bracket over Zayren Terukina from Wartburg (1:34) and Nathan Smith from Parkside (4:25) to earn the third-place finish.

Timberman began his day at 165 pounds with an 11-6 win against David Kasper from Parkside. After a loss in the next round, Timberman rallied for three consecutive wins over Jacob Krakow (12-10), Lee-Lermer (11-6), and Ben Kasten (9-1) for the third-place finish in the weight class.

Bishop started his tournament with a sudden victory 3-2 win against Tyle Burt in the 285-pound weight class bracket. Bishop scored a 6-2 win versus Omar Begic from Wartburg in the quarter finals, then rebounded from a loss in the semifinals with a pair of wins in the final two rounds. Bishop won a 2-1 match in a tiebreaker against Will Hare in the consolation semis before defeating Begic for a second time in the third-place bout by a 3-2 decision.

Wade Ripple placed fifth at 285 pounds. He pinned Ian Ruble from Whitewater in the first match of the day, then picked up a tiebreaker victory 4-3 against Hare in the quarterfinals. Ripple faced Hare again in the finals, picking up a 6-3 decision to claim fifth place in the weight class.
Levi Miller finished sixth in the 197-pound weight class with a pair of decisions over Borgan Howard (5-2) and Brock Meyer (2-1).
