The Wabash College Little Giants basketball team started off their 2018-19 home slate of games with a bang. Boyce the College at Southern had no answer for any part of Wabash's offensive attack as Wabash cruised to a 119-33 win. Â
Â
"We got off to a fast start and those guys are trying and playing hard," head coach Kyle Brummett said. "We threw it inside to Harry (Hallstrom) early and they tried to compact it. We have a really good shooting team. Â
Â
In the game, Wabash set the record for most threes made in a game by making 21. The previous high mark was 16 set in a win at Hiram on January 6, 2012. Â
Â
"All those guys who got open shots like that are practicing them," Brummett said. "We want them to shoot. People are going to take that away and we are going to be a team that can drive. That is just what we were presented with today."Â
Â
Wabash got off to a quick 25-6 start and never looked back extending their lead to 54-16 at the half. Wabash then came out in the second half and got off to a quick 25-5 run to start the second half. Â
Â
Wabash would never trail in this one as they scored 22 seconds into the game and scored six points before Boyce could get on the board.Â
Â
Sophomore
Jack Davidson led all scorers with 22 points. He was 6-of-10 from behind the arc. Freshman
Tyler Watson was close behind scoring 18 points on 7-of-9 shooting from the floor. Â
Â
Junior
Colten Garland made four 3-pointers en route to 12 points. Garland moved into fifth all-time on the career 3-point list. Junior
Alex Eberhard scored 11 points to round out the double-digit scoring for Wabash. Senior
Ben Stachowski grabbed eight rebounds to lead the team in rebounding.Â
Â
Wabash shot an astounding 61.4 percent from the floor and 58.3 percent from behind the arc. Boyce shot 20.8 percent from the floor and 13.3 percent from behind the arc.Â
Â
Wabash has a very good home slate coming up. On Monday, Wabash hosts Rose-Hulman on Monday. Rose-Hulman was picked to finish first in the HCAC. On Wednesday, Wabash hosts Elmhurst, a school who returns everyone from last year. On Saturday, Dension comes to town to kick off NCAC play. Â
Â
"It is really good small college competition coming into Chadwick," Brummett said. "I am excited to see how we grow and how we compete in those three games."
