Kyle Hatch won 165-pound weight class and was one of 16 Wabash wrestlers to post top-eight finishes at the non-team scoring Indiana Little State Tournament, held Saturday at the University of Indianapolis.

Hatch scored the lone individual title by winning the 165-pound weight class, claiming victories in four matches including a pair of pins. He won by fall against Matthew Sells from Cumberland at 4:50 in the opening round match, then pinned Tyler Houston from Defiance at the 2:20 mark. Hatch scored a major decision a 11-0 against Jack Eiteljorge in the semifinals, then defeated Shelden Struble from the University of Indianapolis 6-2 to claim the 165-pound individual title.

Jared Timberman finished third in the 165-pound weight class for Wabash. He opened the competition with a 15-5 major decision over Jeremiah Ford from Manchester, then scored an 18-4 major decision over Tykease Baker from Ancilla College in the second round. After a 6-1 winning decision against Bryce Hoffman from Lindsey Wilson in the quarterfinals, Timberman dropped his bout in the semifinals to fall to the consolation bracket. He earned back-to-back victories in his final two matches with a pin against Jacob Schrader from Marian before scoring a 4-2 sudden victory against Eiteljorge in the finals of the 165-pound bracket to earn third place.

Daylan Schurg added a fifth-place finish in the 165-pound bracket. He pinned Brice Harkness from Wheeling Jesuit at 6:46 in their opening match in the tournament. Schurg lost in the next round but came back to earn an 8-6 sudden victory over teammate
Anthony Cicciarelli in the consolation bracket. Schurg won by an 8-0 major decision Matthew Sells from Cumberland before a loss to Eiteljorge sent Schurg to the fifth place match, where he scored a win by forfeit to claim fifth place overall.

Riley Lomenick placed second in the 141-pound weight class. He opened the day with a tech fall (18-2) against Dante Lapitan from Wheeling Jesuit before scoring a 6-2 decision against Jordan Napier from Manchester. A 3-1 win over Mason Miranda from Marian University sent Lomenick into the championship bout where he lost by pin to Trent Johnson from Lindsey Wilson.

Owen Doster added a sixth-place at 141 pounds. He started the tournament with three consecutive victories with a major decision versus Logan Hurley from Marian, an 18-3 tech fall against Matt Oblock from Wheeling Jesuit, and pin at 4:00 in him bout against Austin Pumphrey from Midway University before three losses to close out the tournament put Doster in sixth place overall.

Darden Schurg finished second at 174 pounds with a 4-1 record for the day. He started the tournament with a pin at 1:52 when facing Cameron Butler from Lindsey Wilson in the opening bout. Schurg scored a 23-4 tech fall in the next round against Avery Jacobs from Indiana Tech, then recorded a 20-7 major decision against Scottie Sopko in the quarterfinals. A 16-1 tech fall by Schurg against Cameron Simmons from Marian set up the championship bout against Brett Bradford from Lindsey Wilson. Bradford defeated Schurg in a tight 9-8 final, giving Schurg second place overall in the bracket.

Cade Girgenti earned a seventh-place finish at 174 pounds. He picked up a 7-0 decision over Jake Weimer from Indiana Tech and another 7-0 victory against Josiah Freeman from Indianapolis before scoring a 9-5 win over Sam Osho from Marian in the seventh-place bout to finish 3-2 for the tournament.

Levi Miller finished second at 197 pounds for the Little Giants with a 3-1 record for the day. He started competition with a pin at 2:09 against Andrew Koonce from Midway the picked up a 4-1 win versus Tyler Scott from Indianapolis in the quarterfinal match. Miller won a 3-1 sudden victory decision over Avery Buckman from Lindsey Wilson in the semifinal bout before a loss in the finals against Zachary Worm from Marian gave Miller second place.

Wade Ripple placed second at heavyweight for Wabash. He started the day by pinning Trayshawn Jones from Calumet at the 1:28 mark of their opening bout. Ripple defeated Seth Bloor from Wheeling Jesuit 6-4 in the quarterfinal round, followed by a pin at 5:00 against Ethan Bunce from Marian in the semifinals. A loss in the finals gave Ripple second place overall in the bracket.

Maxwell Bishop finished third at heavyweight with a 4-1 record overall. He started the tournament with a 5-3 win over Nick Fowler in the first round, followed by pin of Edward Valdez at 3:30 in round two. A 3-2 loss to Raynel Brown in the semifinals sent Bishop to the consolation bracket, where he scored a 3-1 sudden victory over Seth Bloor from Wheeling Jesuit before receiving a medical forfeit in the finals to earn his third place finish.

Jacob Obst scored an early pin at 32 seconds his first-round match against Thomas Argo from Cumberland on his way to a seventh-place finish in the heavyweight bracket. Obst added a 2-0 decision against Jack Williams from Indianapolis and a pin at 5:47 in the finals versus Valdez to earn the seventh-place finish.

Griffin Schermer picked up a third-place finish at 149 pounds. He began the tournament with a pin at 1:19 against Ryan Perez in the opening round, then won 9-4 versus Trace Manspeaker from the University of Indianapolis. Schermer defeated Noah Warren from Marian by fall at the 4:51 mark of their quarterfinal bout. After a loss in the semifinal round, Schermer rebounded for a 6-3 win against Bailey Moore from Marian and a victory by rule in his rematch against Warren in the finals to earn third place.

Caleb Powell finished fourth at 133 pounds for the Little Giants. He scored three consecutive wins in the consolation bracket with back-to-back decisions and a pin of Skyler Gomez from Manchester (2:49).

Ethan Herrin captured fourth place at 184 pounds at Little State. He defeated Nick Brandt from Indiana Tech 9-5 in his first bout of the day, then pinned Richard Almodovar from Midway at the 1:19 mark of their quarterfinal bout. Herrin lost in a sudden victory overtime decision in the semifinals, but advanced to the finals with a pin three minutes into his consolation semifinal bout against Alston Bane from Marian. Herrin lost a tough 7-6 decision to Josue Hill from Indiana Tech in the finals to place fourth overall.

Alexander Barr placed fifth at 157 pounds thanks in part to a pair of early-round wins with a pin in just 32 seconds against Tyler Moore and a 9-0 major decision versus Jon Watkins from Indiana Tech. Barr closed out the tournament with an 8-7 win against Sam York to claim fifth place.

Sunny Nier scored two victories at 125 pounds to earn eighth place overall in the tournament. He posted a tech fall (18-2) Jacob Dodd from Lindsey Wilson and another versus Joshua Stephenson from Manchester (19-3).

Wabash will travel to Worcester Polytechnic Institute next weekend to compete in the WPI Quad Tournament Saturday, December 8. The Little Giants open competition against Johnson and Wales University at 9 a.m.
