Little Giants Limit Turnovers In 108-65 Win Over Allegheny

Wabash raced out to a 17-4 lead in the first five minutes of Thursday night's home North Coast Athletic Conference matchup against Allegheny College to improve to 9-0 overall with a 108-65 win over the Gators.

Wabash, undefeated in conference play with a 4-0 record and ranked 21st in the latest D3hoops.com poll, never let Allegheny (4-6, 0-4 NCAC) cut the lead to single digits after jumping out to the early 13-point advantage. The Little Giant offense kept control of the basketball to generate 76 shot attempts, hitting 34 to shoot 44.7 percent from the field. Wabash committed only eight turnovers, with the final miscue occurring in the last 11 seconds of the 43-point victory. The eight overall turnovers mark the fifth time in nine games this season with fewer than ten turnovers in game and came one shy of the seven against Ohio Wesleyan for the season-low effort. Wabash also handed out 18 assists, led by Colten Garland with four.

The Little Giants held Allegheny to 22-of-62 shooting from the field overall (35.5 percent) and 5-of-22 from three-point range, including 3-of-12 in the first half from behind the arc. Wabash also dominated the glass, outrebounding the visiting Gators 52-38. Harrison Hallstrom grabbed eight boards to pace Wabash. The Little Giants snared 15 offensive rebounds that led to 23 second-chance points.

While Wabash controlled ball with relative ease, the Little Giants forced 16 turnovers by the Gators and converted the possessions into 19 points.

Connor Rotterman led Wabash in scoring with 17 points, joined in double figures by Jack Davidson with 16 points, 14 came from Alex Eberhard, 13 from Garland, and 12 points by Kellen Schreiber. Fifteen of the 16 Wabash players on the roster scored in the game.

The 9-0 start for this year's Wabash team matches the 9-0 effort to begin the 2011-2012 season and is four wins shy of the 13-0 start for the 2010-2011 squad that finished 20-6 overall.

The Little Giants turn around for another conference game on Friday afternoon, a 2 p.m. home contest against Hiram College. The Terriers defeated DePauw University in Greencastle Thursday evening 81-66. Jalen Kirksey led Hiram in scoring with 23 points.
