Wabash Wins Record-Breaking 26th Win With 4-2 Victory over Denison

The Wabash College baseball team scored two runs with two outs in the seventh inning to break a tie and earn a 4-2 victory over Denison University Thursday night in 2018 North Coast Athletic Conference Tournament at VA Memorial Stadium in Chillicothe, Ohio.

The victory broke the school record for wins in the season, giving the Little Giants their 26th win of the year to eclipse the mark of 25 victories set in 1997 and matched in 1998. The win also ended a six-game losing streak for the Little Giants.

Wabash held a 2-0 lead after three innings off an RBI single by Eric Chavez and an RBI ground out from Andrew Jumonville. Denison responded with a run-scoring single from Sam Frazen and an RBI ground out from Grady Paine to even the score at 2-2 in the fifth.

The first two Little Giant batters were retired by 24th-ranked Denison (31-9) in the top of the seventh before Jared Wolfe reached base by being hit by a pitch. Sean Roginski followed with a single to right field to put runners on the corners. Bryce Aldridge broke the tie with a single to second to score Wolfe from third. The Big Red made an errant throw to the infield, allowing Roginski to score to push the advantage to 4-2 in favor of Wabash.
Senior pitcher Bryan Roberts shined on the mound for Wabash (26-15). He earned his seventh win of the season, limiting Denison to six hits and one earned run in eight innings. He struck out eight batters before giving way to Zach Moffett in the ninth inning. The sophomore reliever struck out two of the final three batters in the game to pick up his seventh save of the season while securing the 26th win of the season for the Little Giants.

Aldridge led Wabash with three hits and one RBI. Jumonville and Jackson Blevin collected two of the Little Giants' 11 hits. Wabash scored the win over Denison six days after being swept in a doubleheader at home against the Big Red in a series that saw Wabash limited to 12 hits in the two losses.

Wabash advances to Friday's next round of the NCAC tournament. The Little Giants will face The College of Wooster at noon at VA Memorial Stadium. The winner of that game moves into the championship game on Saturday, while the losing team will face the winner of the following game between Kenyon College and Denison in the loser's bracket.
