Wabash Battles Rose-Hulman to 1-1 Tie Wednesday Night

Wabash and Rose-Hulman played two scoreless ten-minute overtime periods Wednesday night before the soccer showdown between the two schools ended in a 1-1 draw.

The Little Giants (4-1-1) scored the first goal of the match. Senior Jacques Boulais took a pass from freshman Timothy Herring in the eighth minute and fired a shot attempt into the net for his team-leading third goal of the season.

Wabash fired four shot attempts in the first half, while the hostel Fightin' Engineers (1-2-1) managed six tries in the first 45 minutes of play.

Rose evened the score in the second period. Michael Farhat slipped a shot past Wabash keeper Chad Wunderlich in the 58th minute. Travis Bednarek picked up an assist on the play.

The visiting Little Giants managed four shots on goal in the second period but could not pick up the go-ahead goal. Wunderlich saved two shots in overtime to maintain the tie. Wabash did not get a shot on goal in either of the overtime periods.

Herring led the Little Giants with three shots in the match. Justin Kopp, Christian Stiverson, Gabriel Anguiano, Cesar Martinez, and Boulais each finished with shots on goal for Wabash.

"We always know going into this game that Rose-Hulman is a difficult team to play, especially at home," Wabash head coach Chris Keller said. "They are always very well organized, are good at what the do, and play very well. We got a nice goal from Jacques and played good soccer over the first 20 minutes, but then got on our heels a little bit. We played a great second half and in overtime. It could have gone either way and been a win for either team.

"We got impressive play out of Anguiano, from Joshua Scott and Javier Araujo in the middle. It was a great team effort overall. We were a little unfortunate not to get the win in overtime, but I was pleased with effort. It's the type of play we'll need going into Sunday's game against a good Hanover team."

The Little Giants return home to begin a three-game home stand against Hanover College Sunday afternoon with the match starting at 1 p.m.
