An early goal from Cesar Martinez and a header off a corner kick by Cristian Aleman provided all the offense the Wabash soccer team would need in a 2-0 win Sunday afternoon over Hanover College.
 
The Little Giants improved to 5-1-1 overall for the year and posted their fifth shutout of the season. Goalkeeper Chad Wunderlich earned his fifth shutout win of the year, saving two shots. He faced eight total shot attempts by the visiting Panthers (2-4).
 
"We got another good result at home today," Wabash head coach Chris Keller said. "We are playing well at home defensively. The effort was fantastic by the whole team today. We were able to play a lot of substitutes, and they held the level of play and gave us some sparks off the bench. Hanover is a very good team. I fully expect them to be near the top of their conference."
 
Martinez notched the first goal in the tenth minute of the match, collecting a pass from Christian Stiverson to score his first goal of the year while providing Stiverson his second assist of the season. Aleman added an insurance goal in the 81^st minute on a header on a crossing pass from Justin Kopp on a corner kick restart. The Little Giants kept Hanover from getting a shot on goal in the second half of the match.
 
"We defended well and took our chances when they came," Keller said. "It was nice to get two goals on the board and then play the game out at the very end. We got particularly strong games from our back line of Michael Tanchevski and Aleman as well as the holding midfielders, Marco Medina, Josh Scott, and Javier Araujo."
 
Wabash will be back on the pitch Tuesday afternoon with a home match against Anderson University at 4 p.m.
