Early Save Preserves a 1-0 Shutout Win For Wabash

Wabash College goalkeeper Chad Wunderlich saved a penalty kick attempt by Hiram in the first 11 minutes of Saturday afternoon's North Coast Athletic Conference opener between the two teams. The save preserved the shutout for the host Little Giants in the 1-0 home victory.

Wunderlich's early save was one of seven in the match for the sophomore netminder, who recorded his sixth shutout win of the year. He faced a total of 10 shots in the match by the Terriers (0-6-1, 0-1-0 NCAC). Wabash improved to 7-1-1 for the season and 1-0-0 in NCAC action. The results extended the Little Giants' winning streak to three games and sixth consecutive match without a loss.

Wabash was held scoreless until the 74th minute. Cesar Martinez collected a ball on the left side of the offensive half of the field and found freshman Marco Medina with a pass to split the Hiram defense. Medina launched a shot past the Hiram keeper for his first collegiate goal and the game winner for Wabash.

The Little Giants outshot Hiram 18-10, although the visiting Terriers put seven of their ten shots on goal compared to eight shots on goal for Wabash. Timothy Herring led the Little Giants with four shots in the contest.

Wabash travels to Mount St. Joseph University Tuesday for its final non-conference match. The contest begins at 7:30 p.m.
