Soccer Celebrates Senior Day With 2-0 Win Over Allegheny

Wabash honored the seven senior members of its 2019 soccer team Saturday prior to its 2-0 home victory over Allegheny College to improve to 3-0 in North Coast Athletic Conference play.

The Little Giants (8-3-1, 3-0 NCAC) recognized Gabriel Anguiano, Cruz Garcia, Ethan McNaughton, Keith Owen, David Riggs, Michael Tanchevski, and Abdoulie Waggeh for their four-year contributions to the team before the start of the match. Waggeh helped Wabash take a 1-0 lead in the 35th minute when his pass from the right corner found Kyle Holmer on the left side of the box. Holmer settled the ball and delivered a strike into the back of the net for his team-leading fourth goal of the season. The assist was Waggeh's second of the year.

Wabash added a second goal on a set piece in the 54th minute. Justin Kopp delivered a corner kick into the left side of the box for the Little Giants. Cristian Aleman rose above the Allegheny (2-9-1, 0-3 NCAC) defenders and drilled a header into the corner of the net for his second goal of the season.

The Little Giants controlled the ball for 55 percent of the match with 59 percent of that possession occurring on the offensive half of the pitch. Wabash outshot the visiting Gators 8-5 and held a 6-1 advantage in shots on goal.

Chad Wunderlich recorded his sixth shutout of the season and his third consecutive blank sheet against a conference opponent. Wabash has outscored opposing NCAC teams 6-0 through three games this year.

The Little Giants return to action Wednesday afternoon at home against Denison University in a 4 p.m. contest.
