David Riggs scored his third goal of the season in Saturday's North Coast Athletic Conference soccer match to give Wabash a 1-0 victory at Hiram.
Â
The Little Giants (7-3-1, 2-0-0 NCAC) were outshot 12-9 by the host Terriers (5-4-2, 1-1-0 NCAC). Riggs put his only shot attempt of the match into the back of the net in the 13
th minute to provide the game-winning goal. Wabash goalkeeper
Chad Wunderlich made four saves to post his fourth complete-game shutout of the season. Wunderlich moved past Tony Beuke for second on the Wabash all-time shutouts list with 17 career blank sheets.
Â
"This was a very difficult road game," Wabash head coach
Chris Keller said. "We are extremely happy to leave Hiram with three points for the win. We got off to a little bit of a rocky start and had to weather the storm over the first 10-12 minutes. We got a great ball in to Riggs on the run for the goal. From that point forward the game was a really physical battle.
Adam Berg played well along with
Marco Medina and
Joshua Scott in the middle. We kept our composure and finished the game off to secure the win."
Â
The victory keeps Wabash undefeated in NCAC play and at the top of the conference standings along with Kenyon and Ohio Wesleyan, also unbeaten in conference matches. The Little Giants play Allegheny on Saturday, October 12 at 1 p.m. at Fischer Field.
