Wabash won five individual titles and earned 27 top-six places to capture the team title at the 2019 Mid-States Wrestling Tournament held Saturday at Alma College.
 
Owen Doster claimed first place at 133 pounds. The junior defeated Chase Beecher from Alma College by a score of 8-4 in the semifinals, then pinned Malachi Greene from Adrian at the 1:03 mark of the finals bout to win the weight class. Caleb Powell finished third in the 133-pound bracket with a pin in the first round and three consecutive victories in the consolation bracket. Rodney Hendricks III placed sixth in the 133-pound bracket. The freshman earned a pin (2:40) over teammate Jamey Floyd in the consolation bracket.
 
Jared Timberman finished with four wins to capture the 157-pound weight class title. Timber scored a technical fall and a pin in the first two rounds before a major decision in the semfinals moved him into the finals against teammate Kody Wagner, scoring a forfeit win to claim first place. Wagner earned two wins in the opening rounds along with a medical forfeit in the semifinals to claim second place. Alex Barr finished third at 157 pounds with a record of 4-1 in the bracket, including a 7-5 sudden victory in the first round against Dylon Dolph from Ohio Northern University.
 
Kyle Hatch won the 165-pound weight class. He posted three consecutive pins against Frank Mercurio from Olivet (2:38), Owen Conklin from Trine (2:25), and Adam Hall from Olivet (2:49) before scoring a technical fall by a score of 18-0 against Derick Duvall from Adrian in the finals. Daylan Schurg added a fifth-place finish in the 165-pound bracket. He recorded two pins as part of a four-win day in the tournament.
 
Ethan Herrin claimed the 184-pound weight class title. He pinned Hunter McNutt from Defiance in the first minute of the opening round of the tournament, then scored a 9-4 decision in the semifinals against Hiram Robinson from Olivet in the semifinals before receiving a forfeit from teammate Frank Russel in the finals. Russel placed second overall in the weight class by earning two wins overall including a pin of teammate Christian Miller (4:42) in the semifinals. Will Amberger picked up two wins with a 3-2 decision against McNutt and 10-0 win versus Miller to place fourth in the bracket. Miller earned sixth place by earning a first-round pin against Grayson Richter from Alma (5:23).

Maxwell Bishop won the heavyweight division for Wabash. He won his first three matches by pins against Blake Jerome from Heidelberg (2:47), Jacob Ransom from Alma (2;53), and Isaiah Espinoza from Adrian (2:09) before scoring a 6-0 win in the finals over . Wade Ripple earned third place at heavyweight by scoring four consecutive pins in the consolation bracket against Brandon O'Dell from Adrian (0:44), Jacob Garrett from Trine (1:31), Austin Farrell from Trine (1:01), and Collin Lewis from Adrian (1:17). Ripple received a medical forfeit in the semifinals then pinned Dominik Wilson from Olivet at 3:37 of their third-place match in the finals.
 
Chris Diaz placed second at 125 pounds. He picked up two wins in the quarterfinals and semifinals for the second –place finish. Kory Cavanaugh earned a third-place finish in the 125-pound weight class. He scored three victories in the tournament, including a 12-4 major decision versus Garret Cleveland from Olivet College in the finals. Noah Miller added a fifth-place finish at 125 pounds.
 
Riley Lomenick finished second in the 141-pound weight class. He recorded back-to-back pins in the opening two rounds, then scored a major decision (12-1) over Robert Nowik from Adrian in the semifinal. Jacob Stephenson finished third at 141 pounds. He won five consecutive matches in the consolation bracket after a first-round loss, including two pins and technical fall.
 
Griffin Schermer added a second-place finish at 149 pounds to the Wabash team totals. He earned back-to-back technical falls in the opening two rounds followed by a 7-4 decision against Hunter Murphy from Olivet in the semifinal round before losing a tight 10-9 decision to Zachary Cooper from Alma in the championship bout. Sam Russell placed fifth in the 149-pound weight class with a 3-2 record for the tournament. He recorded a pin and a 14-5 major decision before scoring a win by injury default over teammate Maddox Lee in the finals. Lee earned sixth-place honors with three victories including a pin the second consolation round.
 
Chris Wilson scored a pair of pins on the way to a second-place finish at 197 pounds for Wabash. He pinned Austin Smith from Heidelberg (4:51) and Austin Popp from Alma (3:27) after earning an 11-10 decision versus Bradly Minnard from Otterbein for his three victories in the tournament. Levi Miller finished third in the 197-pound bracket. He won his opening-round match 5-3 against Braden Neuberger from Otterbein then added wins against Luke Hess from Otterbein (4-2), a pin versus Austin Engle from Olivet (5:30), and a 15-5 major decision against Popp in the consolation semifinals before receiving a forfeit from teammate Sam Hansen in the finals. Hansen scored two early-round decisions and added a pin against Smith in the consolation semifinals to earn his fourth-place finish in the bracket.
 
Wabash finished with a total of 210 points in the team scoring to easily outscore the remaining 11 teams in the tournament. Alma finished second with 129.5 points with Olivet taking third place with a score of 120. The Little Giants will compete in the NCAA Division III Central Wrestling Regional February 22-23 in the Knowling Fieldhouse at Wabash.
 
Cade Girgenti finished third in the 174-pound weight class bracket. He scored a tech fall in the opening round, then added four consecutive victories in the consolation bracket including two pins. One pin came in the third-place match against Lucas Brewer from Alma (4:37) to earn third place. Carlos Lopez earned fifth place at 174 pounds four victories in the bracket, including a sudden victory win tin the consolation quarterfinals by a score of 8-6 over Kamyab Kamali from Olivet.
