A six-run fifth inning by Rhodes College lifted the home team past Wabash in the Little Giants' season-opening baseball game in Memphis Sunday. Wabash lost 9-3 in nine innings.

The Little Giants (0-1) opened up a 2-0 lead in the first two innings of the game. Wabash plated a run in the first inning on an RBI single by
Jackson Blevins to score
Jared Wolfe who led off the game with a walk. Catcher
Joe House tripled home another run in the second to score
Henry Wannemuehler after he walked with two outs in the inning.

Rhodes (3-4) scored six runs in the fifth inning and added three more in the sixth to move in front 9-2. The Little Giants scored a run in the ninth when
Joey Martoccio came home on a fielder's choice to produce the final six-run difference.

Wabash totaled seven hits over the course of the game. Blevins, Wolfe, House, Martoccio,
Andrew Jumonville,
Sean Roginski, and
Cameron Martin each provided hits for the Little Giants.

Sean Smith took the loss in his first start of the season. He pitched 4-2/3 innings of nine-hit baseball, surrendering five earned runs with one walk and three strikeouts.
Parker Noll pitched 2/3 of an inning, allowing three earned runs on two hits and three walks.
Logan Butrum and Erik Lakomek closed out the game on the mound for Wabash and combined to hold the Lynx to one hit and four walks. Lakomek struck out one batter.

Wabash and Rhodes will play a double-header Monday to complete the series. The teams will play a nine-inning game beginning at 10 a.m. (CST) for a nine-inning contest before concluding with a seven-inning contest in the afternoon.
