Second-Period Scoring Attack Not Enough To Lift Wabash Lacrosse Past Wooster

Wabash outscored Wooster 3-1 over a span of three-and-a-half minutes to cut into the host Scots' second period lead in Saturday's North Coast Athletic Conference lacrosse game. The visiting Little Giants could not overcome a fast start by Wooster in a 19-7 loss.

Wabash (5-8, 1-3 NCAC) trailed 3-0 before Tucker Dixon scored his first goal of the game four minutes into the contest. Wooster (5-8, 3-1 NCAC) responded with two mover goals to push its lead to 5-1. Dixon scored again off an assist from Drayden Hansen prior to a goal by the Scots to close out the first period.

Wooster opened the second period with a pair of goals to move in front 8-2. Wabash answered with a goal by Collin Brennan to start the 3-1 scoring run for the Little Giants. Wooster tallied a goal to push its lead to 9-3 before goals by Steven Stark and Brennan in less than 20 seconds trimmed the advantage to 9-5. The Scots scored the final two goals of the period to go into halftime with an 11-5 lead.

Joseph Plencner scored for the Little Giants in the first 30 seconds of the third period to make the score 11-6. The Scots answered by scoring the next six goals of the period to stretch the lead to 17-6. Stark added a fourth-period goal for his second of the game before the Scots closed out the contest with a goal in the final nine seconds for the 19-7 victory.

Wabash won 14 of the 30 faceoff starts in the game with John Rodgers earning 13 of those wins. The Little Giants finished 12-of-24 on clearing attempts and caused three turnovers. Joe LaRue, Ben Cox, and Chase Cochran each finished with one caused turnover for Wabash. Rodgers led the Little Giants with six ground balls, with Max Atkins adding five ground balls. Atkins recorded 19 saves on a total of 56 shots and 38 shots on goal by Wooster.

Wabash scored twice on extra-man opportunities as the Scots were called for nine penalties totaling eight minutes. The Little Giants came into the game ranked 24th in Division III and leading the conference in man-down defense. Wabash allowed one goal on two extra-man opportunities by Wooster on four Wabash penalties.

The Little Giants travel to Ohio Wesleyan Wednesday for a 5 p.m. conference contest.
