Wabash Suffers Road Lacrosse Loss at Ohio Wesleyan

Wabash traveled to Delaware, Ohio Wednesday evening to face North Coast Athletic Conference men's lacrosse co-leader Ohio Wesleyan. The Little Giants scored four goals in the fourth-period after the host Battling Bishops built up an early lead in a 30-6 contest in favor of OWU.

Tucker Dixon led Wabash (5-9, 1-4 NCAC) with two goals scored in the game. Dixon entered the contest ranked tenth in the NCAC in goals scored per game with an average of 2.25 per contest. Joseph Plencner put Wabash on the scoreboard in the second period with his 19th goal of the season. Dixon scored his 28th goal of the year to open the third period scoring. Collin Brennan added his team-leading 31st goal of the year to begin the four-goal fourth period. Chase Cochran, Dixon, and Evan Schiefelbein each tallied goals in the final period to complete the scoring for the Little Giants.

Ohio Wesleyan (8-6, 5-0 NCAC) scored 11 goals in the opening period and added another 11 in the second.

Wabash continued its conference-leading man-down defense against OWU. The Little Giants entered the contest ranked 27th in Division III in goals allowed when the opposition has a man advantage due to a penalty by not allowing teams to score 80.4 percent of the time. Wabash limited the Battling Bishops to one goal in two man-up situations on Wednesday, while the Little Giants capitalized on one of their two extra-man chances with Dixon's second goal.

The Little Giants grabbed 19 ground balls, led by Schiefelbein with six. Max Atkins finished with five ground balls in the game and made 13 saves on 64 total shots and 43 shots on goal by Ohio Wesleyan. Aaron Elsing and Schiefelbein both caused one turnover in the game.

Wabash returns home on Saturday to continue conference play with a game against Kenyon College beginning at 1 p.m. at Fischer Field.
