Second Half Scoring Not Enough In Lacrosse Loss at DePauw

Wabash outscored DePauw 4-3 in the second half of Tuesday evening's North Coast Athletic Conference lacrosse game, but the host Tigers used a 12-3 first half advantage to claim a 15-7 win over the Little Giants.
 
Wabash (5-11, 1-6 NCAC) trailed 1-0 when Joseph Plencner evened the score three minutes into the first period with his 21st goal of the season. DePauw (6-8, 3-4 NCAC) tallied the next three goals of the period to move in front 4-1 before Steven Stark notched his 25th goal of the season to cut the lead to 4-2. The Tigers added one more goal in the first period before scoring the first two goals of the second period for a 7-2 advantage.
 
Tucker Dixon scored his 30th goal of the year with 9:42 remaining in the half off a pass from Stark to cut the lead to 7-3. DePauw responded by scoring the final five goals of the period to push the lead to 12-3 at halftime.
 
The Tigers added another goal in the opening minutes of the third period before Chase Cochran and Collin Brennan tallied back-to-back goals to make the score 13-5. Brennan assisted on Cochran's ninth goal of the year, while Dixon provided the assist on Brennan's team-leading 32nd goal of the year. Plencner added a second goal with 2:05 remaining in the third period to bring Wabash to within eight goals.
 
Brennan scored the final Wabash goal with 10:13 left in the game off a pass from Plencner for a 14-7 differential before the Tigers added a final goal with 5:47 left to play.
 
Wabash scored five of its seven goals in 10:30 of extra-man situations after DePauw was called for 12 penalties. The Tigers scored one goal on two Wabash penalties allowing for man-up opportunities. The Little Giants caused 14 turnovers in the game, led by Aaron Elsing with three. Evan Schiefelbein grabbed a team-high six ground balls with Zach LaRue adding five to the team total of 25. Wabash put 14 shots on goal on 32 total attempts. DePauw finished with 52 shots and 26 shots on goal. Max Atkins made 11 saves in the game.
 
Wabash will face Oberlin College on Saturday at 1 p.m. in the Little Giants' 2019 season finale. The senior members of the team will be honored prior to the opening face off at Fischer Field.
