Eighth Inning Leads To Wabash Loss To Anderson

Wabash held a 7-4 lead entering the eighth inning Tuesday night versus Anderson University in a meeting between the two teams at Victory Field in Indianapolis. The Ravens scored five runs in the bottom half of the eighth to claim a 9-7 victory over the Little Giants.

Wabash (13-12) trailed 1-0 after Anderson (12-9) scored first in the bottom half of the second inning off starting pitcher Dylan Scheid. The Little Giants claimed the lead by scoring a pair of runs in the top of the third after Henry Wannemuehler opened the inning with a double and came home on a throwing error by the Ravens. Sean Roginski drove in the second run of the inning with an RBI single to score Jared Wolfe.

The Little Giants put two more runs on the scoreboard in the fourth inning off RBI singles by Wolfe and Roginski. Anderson closed the Wabash lead to 4-2 but the Little Giants tacked on a run in the fifth inning after Matthew Annee doubled and raced home on a sacrifice fly by Erich Lange.

Anderson scored two runs in the bottom of the fifth inning to trim the Wabash lead to 5-4. The Little Giants answered again, plating two runs in the sixth inning on a two-run double by Lange to score Roginski and Jackson Blevins.

The Little Giants held a three-run lead entering the eighth inning when the Ravens rallied for five runs off relievers Kevin O'Donnell and Zach Moffett. O'Donnell was charged with three runs while giving up one hit and two walks. Moffett followed and pitched one-third of an inning and surrendered two runs (one earned) on two walks to take the loss. Julian Rutherford closed out the eighth inning for Wabash, but the Little Giants were retired in order in the ninth to end the ballgame.

Scheid pitched five innings and gave up nine hits and four runs with one walk and four strikeouts. Tyler Dearing pitched two scoreless innings in relief, allowing two hits and one walk with one strikeout.

Lange led the Wabash offense by delivering three RBI in the game. Roginski drove in two runs for the Little Giants. Roginski, Wolfe, and Annee each picked up two hits in the game.
