Joshua Scott scored the lone goal of the night for the Wabash soccer team to lift the Little Giants to a 1-0 victory at Franklin College in the 2019 season-opening match.
Scott collected a pass from
Joseph Kaefer and deposited a shot inside the left post to tally his first career goal. Scott fired one of 19 shots in the match for Wabash (1-0). The Little Giants finished with nine shots on goal for the match, led by
Coledon Johnson with three shots on goal out of his five total shot attempts.
Kyle Holmer added two shots on goal for the Little Giants.
"Anytime we can go on the road and get a win is satisfying," Wabash head coach
Chris Keller said. "I was very happy to use the depth of our roster and get 23 players into the match. They all maintained the level of play throughout the contest. This effort will definitely pay off later on in the season. Overall it was a good team performance with solid defensive work. We were a little disappointed to not score a few more goals. We had opportunities, but in the end any road win is good regardless of the score."
Wabash limited Franklin (0-1) to four shots on goal and six total shot attempts. Wabash goalkeeper
Chad Wunderlich recorded the shutout victory by making four saves.
Wabash opens the home portion of the schedule on Wednesday with a 5 p.m. contest against Earlham College.
