Last-Minute Goal Sends Wabash To 1-0 Loss At Trine

Wabash held Trine scoreless for 89 minutes in Sunday afternoon's soccer match before the host Thunder scored with 59 seconds remaining in regulation to hand the Little Giants a 1-0 loss.

Wabash (3-3) put two shots on goal, one each by Kyle Holmer and Cesar Martinez. The Little Giants finished with nine total shot attempts compared to 11 total shots and five shots on goal for Trine (3-1).

The Thunder got the game-winning goal from Noah Aljabaly in the final minute of play, scoring his second goal of the season off a pass from Cedric Carbajal.

Wabash goalkeeper Chad Wunderlich recorded four saves in the loss.

"That was a tough ending to a difficult game," Wabash head coach Chris Keller said. "There were several midfield battles. It was a physical match. This was a very similar style of game that we will have to play in every North Coast Athletic Conference game, so it was good to get that type of experience. Hopefully we learned you can't turn off your effort for 20 seconds because good teams will make you pay. That happened to us today so it's a good wakeup call for our team. We were struggling a little bit today with where we needed to be in the final third of the field. That just comes from a lack of discipline. Hopefully we will turn things around Tuesday at Anderson."

The Little Giants travel to Anderson University for a 4 p.m. match on Tuesday, September 17.
