Wabash fell behind early and could not catch up in a 15-6 loss at Calvin in its opening lacrosse game of the season.

The Little Giants (0-1) fell behind 4-2 in the first period before the Knights (1-0) scored nine goals in the second period compared to one for Wabash. The Little Giants notched the only goal of a defensive third period. Both teams finished with a pair of goals in the final period of play.

Joseph Plencner led Wabash with three goals in the contest. He tallied his first of the season in the first period to cut the Calvin lead to 4-2. Plencner added a second goal to open the second period and trim the lead to 4-3.

That would the closest the Little Giants would get in the match. Calvin ripped off nine consecutive goals to take a 13-3 lead at halftime.

AJ Shaheen scored his first goal of the season with 38 seconds remaining in the third period.
Ethan Stonis scored his first collegiate goal in the final 2:32 of the match before Plencner scored his third and final goal of the game with 1:15 remaining for the 15-6 final.

Wabash proved unable to take advantage of any penalty situations. The Little Giants finished 1-of-8 in extra-man opportunities while Calvin scored two goals on their first extra-man chance and went 1-of-2 in the second period in man-up situations.

Wabash won five of the 25 face-offs and successfully cleared 15 of 29 chances. Shaheen and
Chase Cochran both picked up assists on Wabash goals. The Little Giants grabbed 29 ground balls led by Evan Shiefelbein with 10. Schiefelbein and
Andrew Miller each caused two turnovers in the game.

Max Atkins made 22 saves in 51 minutes of action. Freshman
Luke Paul finished the game in between the pipes for Wabash and did not face a shot attempt.
