Second Quarter Offensive Drought Ends In Loss at Monmouth

The Wabash lacrosse team traveled to Illinois Saturday afternoon to play Monmouth College. The Little Giants lost an 18-6 contest to the host Fighting Scots.
 
Wabash (0-2) trailed 5-3 at the end of the first period when Monmouth (4-0) went on a 5-0 scoring run to take a 10-3 advantage into halftime. The Scots added four more goals in the third period before Chase Cochran ended the streak with his second goal of the game to make the score 14-4.
 
Drayden Hansen and Ethan Stonis added second-half goals for the Little Giants. Hansen and AJ Shaheen both scored in the first half of the game for Wabash. Cochran, Stonis, and Jake Taylor each handed out one assist in the contest.
 
The Little Giants went 0-for-4 in extra-man opportunities in the game. Wabash dominated the faceoff dot as freshman Cornelius Pettinga finished 20 of 26 on restarts. The Little Giants were successful on 13-of-21 clearing attempts.
 
Evan Schiefelbein led Wabash with 14 ground balls and two caused turnovers. Cochran scooped up 10 ground balls in the game.
 
Max Atkins recorded 14 saves as the starting goalie for the Little Giants. Luke Paul played the final 15 minutes of the contest and made three saves.
 
Wabash opens the home portion of its schedule this Thursday when the Little Giants play host to Albion College at 4 p.m. at Fischer Field. Wabash will play at home against Mount St. Joseph University on Saturday, March 7 at 1 p.m.
