Tie Versus Oberlin Enough To Send Wabash To NCAC Soccer Tourney

Wabash College earned its fourth consecutive trip to the North Coast Athletic Conference Men's Soccer Tournament with a 1-1 draw versus Oberlin at home on Saturday. The Little Giants will compete in the conference tournament beginning with the semifinal round on Wednesday.

Wabash (11-5-2, 4-3-2 NCAC) struck first in Saturday's match. Alexis Delgado scored his fifth goal of the season off a pass from Emilio Paez in the 20th minute to provide the 1-0 lead. That score held until the 70th minute when Nic Jandeleit picked up the game-tying goal for Oberlin (5-9-4, 3-4-2 NCAC).

The two teams played a pair of scoreless overtime periods to end in the 1-1 draw, giving Wabash the one team point it needed to finish fourth in the regular-season conference standings. The Little Giants scored a total of 14 points in conference play this season. DePauw finished fifth with 12 points, while Oberlin took sole possession of sixth place with a total of 11 points.

Wabash goalkeeper Michael Bertram faced a total of 13 shots and five shots on goal to record four saves in the match. The Little Giants finished with 24 total shots and seven shots on goal, including the only shot on goal in either of the extra overtime periods.

The Little Giants will travel to Kenyon College for a 2 p.m. contest Wednesday in the semifinal round of the tournament. Wabash and Kenyon have played twice in previous NCAC semifinal matches with the Lords claiming a 3-0 win in 2014 and a 1-0 victory in 2018.
