Wabash made a 3-1 halftime lead stand up for a two-goal soccer victory at Allegheny College Saturday afternoon.
Â
Coledon Johnson tallied a pair of goals for Wabash (9-2-1, 2-0-1) for the third two-goal game of his career. Johnson's first goal came in the 30
th minute of the match. He collected a pass from Jerry Little in the top-right corner of the box to tally his team-best ninth goal of the season.
Â
Alexis Delgado scored the second goal of the contest in the 31
st minute when he stole the ball from an Allegheny (4-7-0, 0-3-0) defender and drilled a shot into the net for his fourth goal of the season. Johnson added one final goal in the 38
th minute for his tenth of the year to answer a goal by Allegheny's Nicholas Taliani one minute earlier.
Â
Wabash put up eight shots in the second half after finishing with 13 in the first 45 minutes. The Little Giants recorded 11 shots on goal, led by Johnson with three.
Â
Little Giant goalkeeper
Michael Bertram recorded two saves to earn the victory. He faced eight total shots from the Gators in the game.
Â
"It's always difficult to make the long trip out to Allegheny," Wabash head coach
Chris Keller said. "We came out strong and played really well in the first half to score the three goals. We hit the post a couple of times in the second half. Defensively we did give up one goal but I felt it was a really good effort overall with a good game in goal from Bertram. Everyone contributed to the win and that was key to be able to bring the win back home."
Â
Wabash will travel to Denison University on Wednesday for a 7 p.m. contest against the Big Red.
