Wabash Finishes 0-2 Versus Mount Union

Wabash battled the University of Mount Union in two Midwest Collegiate Volleyball League matches Saturday at Chadwick Court. The Little Giants lost both matches by 3-0 scores.
 
Wabash (2-8, 2-8 MCVL) took an early lead in the first match with a 4-1 advantage in the opening set. The Little Giants continued to roll through the set to eventually take a 21-17 lead. Mount Union (7-2, 4-2 MCVL) rallied to even the score at 21-21, then moved in front by two in an attempt to close out the set. Wabash added its own rally with a kill by Evan Nichols before tying the score at 23-23 on a Nichols block. Mount finished off the game with two final points to claim the first set 25-23. The Purple Raiders took the match with wins of 25-16 and 25-13 in the final two sets.
 
Luke Wallace paced Wabash with 10 kills and an attack percentage of .241 in game one. Luke Davis recorded 17 assists. Davis and Justin Abequibel each finished with five digs to lead the Little Giants in game one.
 
Wabash pushed Mount Union to a 25-20 final in the first set of the second match. The Little Giants raced out to a 7-3 lead on a kill by Davis, one of three in the set for the freshman. The set featured five ties and two lead changes before the Purple Raiders took the 21-20 lead. Mount scored the final four points to win the first set 25-20. The Purple Raiders completed the sweep with a pair of 25-11 victories in sets two and three.
 
Wallace recorded six kills and a team-best seven digs in the second match for Wabash. Davis picked up 11 set assists for Wabash. Abequibel paced the squad with 19 receptions for a .864 receiving percentage.
 
Wabash will travel to Cincinnati for two MCVL matches versus Mount St. Joseph University beginning at 1 p.m.
