Wabash Opens With 4-2 Win Over Franklin

The Wabash College soccer team fired 17 shots on goal and scored four times in a 4-2 home victory over Franklin College Wednesday evening.
 
The Little Giants (1-0) dominated the offense, with 67 percent of their possession taking place in the attacking half of the field. Wabash mustered 32 total shots in the contest with 17 on net. Franklin (0-1) recorded 13 saves in the match and kept the game scoreless through the first half.
 
Wabash struck for the first goal in the 60th minute when Timothy Herring fired a shot from the left side and scored to put the Little Giants up 1-0. Franklin answered four minutes later with an equalizing goal from Noah Harris. The Little Giants broke the 1-1 tie when Franklin was called for a foul in the box to set up a penalty kick. Coledon Johnson drilled the kick for his first goal of the season to give Wabash the 2-1 lead.
 
Freshman Jordan Donsky made it a 3-1 contest in the 73rd minute when he gathered a ball from Jerry Little and scored to extend the Wabash lead. Franklin drew within one goal when Jon Moore scored in the 78th minute. Joseph Kaefer put the Little Giants back in front by two goals when he scored off a shot by Donsky that hit the goal. Kaefer followed with the rebound for his first goal of the season and a 4-2 final in favor of the Little Giants.
 
Freshman Henry Giesel started in goal for Wabash and earned his first career victory. He faced four total shots and three shots on goal to record one save. The Little Giant defense limited Franklin to only 13 percent of possession in the final offensive quarter of the field for the game.
 
Wabash continues its homestand to start the season with a home game Friday at 5 p.m. against the University of Chicago.
