Late Goal Leads To 2-1 Loss For Wabash

Coledon Johnson scored his second goal of the season in Friday night's soccer match between Wabash College and the 19th-ranked University of Chicago. The visiting Maroons scored late in the match to leave Crawfordsville with a 2-1 decision over the Little Giants.
 
 
Wabash (1-1) evened the score at 1-1 after Chicago (2-0) scored in the sixth minute. The Maroons Ben Brandt tallied his second goal of the season off a pass from Ryan Shea to put the visitors in front 1-0. Wabash freshman Bruno Zamora collected a ball on the right side in the 55th minute of the match and dropped a pass to Austin Hughes. Hughes found Johnson with a touch pass to set up the equalizing goal by Johnson.
 
The score remained tied until the final six minutes of the match. Kameron Boyce blasted a shot from outside of 18 yards into the back of the net to give Chicago the lead and the victory.
 
Wabash fired seven total shots in the match with two on goal. Johnson notched both shots on goal. The Maroons finished with five shots on goal for the contest. Wabash goalkeeper Michael Bertram recorded three saves in his first start of the season.
 
The Little Giants travel to Terre Haute on Wednesday, September 8, for a 7 p.m. match at Rose-Hulman.
