Wabash Wins Road Match At Hanover

A pair of first-half goals proved to be enough to lift the Wabash soccer team to a 3-1 victory at Hanover Saturday afternoon.

Austin Hughes and Jackson Hoover tallied first-half scores to provide the winning margin for the Little Giants (5-2). Adam Berg scored a second-half goal for the winning cushion.

Hughes notched his second goal of the season in the 15th minute of the match after collecting a pass from Coledon Johnson for the assist. Hoover picked up his first goal of the season in the 39th minute to extend the Wabash lead to 2-0 at halftime.

Berg picked up his first goal of the year in the 71st minutes off a pass from Alexis Delgado to stretch the lead to 3-0. Hanover (3-3-1) picked up its only goal of the game in the 78th minute from Fillipe Busato.

Michael Bertram earned the win as the starting goalkeeper for the Little Giants. He recorded nine saves and faced a total of 22 shot attempts. The Little Giants were efficient, putting five of their six total shot attempts.

"We got another great performance on the road from our team, particularly against a very tough Hanover team," Wabash head coach Chris Keller said. "We scored some good goals early by Hughes and Hoover and a really good goal from Berg late. Hanover's a veteran team with 13 seniors and eight juniors. They provided a good road test for us. We defended well and took advantage of our chances when we had them."

Wabash completes the weekend doubleheader on Sunday at 2 p.m. at home against Grinnell College. The eight members of the senior class will be honored before the start of the match.
