Wabash scored seven first-place finishes and 13 top-three performances in Friday evening's dual swimming and diving meet at Rose-Hulman. The hosts handed the Little Giants a 186-110 loss in their first dual meet of the 2022-23 season.
Caleb McCarty finished the 50-yard freestyle in 21.97 to capture first place in that event. Teammate
Connor Craig placed third with a time of 22.49.McCarty added another first-place finish for Wabash in the 100-yard freestyle with a winning time of 48.18. McCarty,
Ethan Johns,
John Allen, and Craig combined to win the final event of the evening, the 200-yard freestyle relay with a total time of 1:29.29.
Ethan Johns scored an individual victory in the 200-yard freestyle by finishing the race in 1:46.72. He also placed third overall in the 500 freestyle by finishing in 5:06.88.Â
Freshman
Barret Smith added a win in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 56.07.Â
William Morris won both diving events for the Little Giants. He scored a total of 268.05 points to win the one-meter diving event.
Justin To placed third overall with a score of 140.80. Morris added a first-place finish on the three-meter board with a score of 243.20. To placed third in that event with a total of 133.60 points.
Jacob Penrose took second place in the 1,000-yard freestyle by finishing in 10:40.65.Â
The Wabash foursome of Smith,
Eddie DaMata, Craig, and McCarty took second place in the 200-yard medley relay with a time of 1:40.92.Â
Wabash returns to the poll Saturday afternoon with a dual meet against Albion College in the Little Giants' home opener of the season at the Class of 1950 Natatorium. The meet begins at 2 p.m.
