Little Giants Edge DePauw In Two-Point Dual-Meet Victory

Wabash scored 22 top-three finishes in Friday evening's dual meet against DePauw University. The Little Giants edged the visiting Tigers 141-139 at the Class of 1950 Natatorium.

Justice Wenz, Jacob Penrose, Xander Straw, and Justin To scored a pair of first-place finishes for the Little Giants. Wenz won the 100-yard breastroke with a time of 1:01.58. Eddie DaMata placed third for the Little Giants by finishing in 1:02.79. Wenz also scored a first-place finish in the 200-yard breaststroke with a winning time of 2:15.43. Dane Market placed third overall for Wabash by finishing in 2:18.02. Wenz also scored a second-place finish in the 200-yard individual medley with a time of 2:04.73. Barret Smith captured third place by finishing in 2:07.60.

Penrose recorded his first individual victory in the 1,000-yard freestyle by touching the wall in 10:24.18. He scored a second individual victory in the 200 butterfly by finishing the race in 2:03.85. 

Straw earned his first victory by posting a winning time of 1:45.78 in the 200-yard freestyle. Teammate Ethan Johns placed third in the race with a tie of 1:47.63. Straw also won the 500 freestyle by finishing in 4:52.61. Penrose picked up third place in the race with a time of 5:02.84. 

Smith added a victory in the 100-yard backstroke. The freshman won the race with a time of 54.85. Marc Nicholson captured third place by finishing in 56.59. Smith also scored a second-place finish in the 200-yard backstroke with a time of 2:01.25. Nicholson also placed third in that race by finishing in 2:07.23. 

Justin To won both diving events. He scored 145 points to win the one-meter diving competition and added a score of 144.05 to win the three-meter event.

Caleb McCarty finished second in a pair of races. He took second in the 50-yard freestyle by finishing in 21.56. McCarty captured second place in the 100 freestyle with a time of 47.80.

Wabash also placed second in both relay events. The Little Giant foursome of Smith, DaMata, Nicolas Hakimian, and McCarty finished the 200-yard medley relay in 1:39.13 to open the competition. Wabash scored a second-place finish in the final event of the evening to secure the two-point victory. The quartet of Johns, Nicholson, John Allen, and McCarty placed second in the 400-yard freestyle relay by finishing in 3:14.22 to lock up the win.
