AJ Reid's RBI triple with one out in the top of the ninth inning lifted the Wabash baseball team to a 3-2 victory in the 2022 season opener over Heidelberg on Saturday at Grand Park in Westfield, Indiana.

Reid drove in
Kamden Earley after he reached base on a two-out walk. Reid finished the day 2-of-4 from the plate with one walk. The Little Giants finished the game with six total hits.

Reece Bauer drove in the first run of the game for Wabash (1-0) in the fifth inning. His single brought
Camden Scheidt home after the freshman doubled down the right-field line. Scheidt's run tied the game at 1-1, answering a fourth-inning home run by Heidelberg (0-1).

Wabash took a 2-1 lead in the seventh inning when Scheidt raced home on a throwing error. Scheidt went 2-for-3 with two runs scored in his collegiate debut. The Student Princes tied the game in the bottom of the eighth inning on a bases-loaded single before Reid's heroics in the ninth provided Wabash with the win.

Derek Haslett earned the victory in relief for Wabash. He pitched three innings of one-hit baseball and surrendered one earned run. Haslett walked four and struck out five batters.
Dylan Scheid started for Wabash and worked six innings, scattering three hits while striking out eight batters.

Wabash will play Otterbein in a Sunday noon contest at Grand Park.
