Wabash pounded out 19 hits Sunday afternoon to defeat Otterbein 15-5 and improve to 2-0 to begin the 2022 baseball season.

The Little Giants finished with a total of nine extra-base hits, including seven doubles and back-to-back triples by
Felix Valero and
Reece Bauer in the sixth inning.
Liam Patton went 4-for-5 at the plate with three doubles and three RBI.

Bauer collected three hits in four at-bats for Wabash. Valero,
AJ Reid,
Brayden Lentz, and
Camden Scheidt each produced two hits. All nine starters collected at least one hit for the Little Giants in the game.

Wabash jumped out to an early lead by scoring four runs in the first inning. Reid drove in
Kamden Earley with a double in the opening frame. A ground-rule double for Patton brought Reid home with the second run of the game. A single from Lentz scored
Noah Luebbehusen to make it a 3-0 contest. Scheidt drove in the final run of the inning when he reached on a fielder's choice.

The Little Giants added another run in the second and two more in the fifth. A five-run sixth inning put the game well out of reach, but Wabash still wasn't done scoring. The Little Giants added one more run in the seventh inning and a final two runs in the eighth for the 10-run margin.

Tavic Simmons earned the win in relief of starter
Jacob Bishop. Bishop threw four innings and held Otterbein (1-1) to two runs on two hits. He struck out five batters and walked one. Simmons pitched three innings and scattered eight hits while recording two strikeouts. He surrendered three runs on the afternoon.
Sam Phillips and
Grant Stratton each pitched one scoreless inning to close out the ballgame.

The Little Giants are scheduled to play seven games on their spring break trip to Tucson, Arizona, beginning with a doubleheader against Aurora University on March 6.
