Wabash College senior guard
Tyler Watson broke the Little Giants' single-game assists record Sunday in the basketball team's 103-83 home victory over Hiram.

Watson accounted for 14 assists, breaking the old record of 13 set by Johnny Jager against Denison in 2016. Watson also picked up his second career double-double by scoring 18 points in the North Coast Athletic Conference win. Wabash finished the game with a total of 23 assists, which tied for the eighth-best single-game mark in program history.

Wabash (17-3, 12-1 NCAC) extended its winning streak to 13 games with the victory to match the 13-game winning streak the 2010-2011 team executed at the start of the season. The Little Giants maintain their lead in the conference standings ahead of second-place Wooster (15-6, 11-3 NCAC).

Wabash trailed the visiting Terriers (8-13, 5-9 NCAC) after Hiram opened the game with a three-point basket from Oliver Clingain. The Little Giants responded with a 10-1 run over the next three minutes to claim the lead they would never relinquish. Wabash quickly expanded its lead to as many as 14 points in the first half before Hiram began to trim the difference. A basket and free throw by Brodgie Gordon brought Hiram back to within three points at 37-34 with 3:51 remaining.

Watson sparked a 7-0 response by Wabash with a driving layup. A three-point basket from
Jack Davidson and a layup by
Jesse Hall put the Little Giants back in front 44-34. Hall scored the final basket of the opening half to answer a Hiram made free throw to provide a 46-35 Wabash lead at the break.

The Little Giants outscored Hiram 9-2 in the first 2:30 of the second half to push the lead to 18 points. The Terriers would get no closer than 13 points before Wabash put the game away, outscoring Hiram 57-48 overall in the final period to claim the 20-point win.

Kellen Schreiber paced the Wabash offense with 25 points. He also led the team with seven rebounds. Davidson scored 22 points and gave out four assists. Hall finished with 10 points for Wabash.

The Little Giants shot an impressive 60.3 percent from the field by connecting on 38-of-63 shot attempts. Wabash finished 10-of-18 from three-point range for 55.6 percent and went 17-of-19 from the free throw line (895 percent). Hiram shot 43.4 percent from the field (33-of-76) and 50 percent from three-point range (10-of-20). The Terriers finished 7-of-12 from the free throw line (58.3 percent).

Gordon led Hiram with 19 points. Kevin Beans, Jr. scored 15 points and Doug Sartain came off the bench to add 14 points for the Terriers.

Wabash plays Ohio Wesleyan University at home on Wednesday, February 9. Tipoff at Chadwick Court is set for 7 p.m.
